Crochet Basket: free crochet pattern

Crochet Stash Basket: free crochet pattern | She's Got the Notion

I have a new crochet pattern for you today! This week's 10 for Tuesday was all about crocheted baskets. It inspired me to create my own version. I knew I wanted the base to have an oval shape and for it to have handles. I used a cotton yarn I had in my stash (I'm still staying true to my March goals!). The great thing about this yarn was that I had picked it up on clearance awhile ago so it was just $0.97 a ball. That means I made myself a crochet basket for about $2!

The start of spring marks the start of spring cleaning. After you've done your cleaning, sorting, and throwing away routine, you usually want to start organizing what you have left. These crochet storage baskets are perfect for just that! (And a great excuse to stop cleaning for a bit and doing some crocheting). As always, these are all free tutorials that I hand picked for you. Enjoy!

Bunny Foldover Clutch Sewing Tutorial

Bunny Foldover Clutch: sewing tutorial | She's Got the Notion

I have a sewing tutorial that's perfect for Easter. This foldover bunny clutch makes a cute little purse that will easily fit your essentials. I also think it'd make an adorable alternative to an Easter basket for girls. Just stuff it full of little goodies! This bag would be a good makeup bag or storage pouch for anything small too.

Crochet Cotton Pads and Face Scrubbies

Crochet Cotton Pads and Face Scrubbies | She's Got the Notion

When I talked last week about my blog goals for March, I said I wanted to try and use what I have and be less wasteful. I had made a goal to not purchase any new crafting supplies this month, and I've held true to that so far.

I wanted to try out a couple of things from this week's 10 for Tuesday post about being more green. (Honestly, they're for my inspiration as much as yours!) I first wanted to try out some felted wool dryer balls. I liked the idea of chemical free fabric softener and not having to keep throwing away the sheets. I had some vintage wool in my stash that wasn't holding up so well with age. It was getting very weak and would snap easily. I figured they would be great for this project. Unfortunately, the dye bled a lot. That's not something you want when you're going to be throwing them in with your whites! So I'm am shelving this project until I have lifted my ban on buying new craft supplies. I just purchased a new box of fabric softener sheets anyway, so there is no rush.

10 for Tuesday: Green Crochet & Sewing Projects

10 'Green' Crochet & Sewing Projects: eco-friendly DIYs | She's Got the Notion

In honor of St. Patrick's Day next week, I decided to dedicate this week to being green. Not the color (wouldn't that be funny?) but in the lifestyle. Being more eco-conscience is something we can all do to take better care of the planet for our ourselves and for future generations. It can save us some money in the long run too, which is always a good thing. These are simple projects if you can crochet or sew to help out the environment and become less wasteful. Hope they can inspire you!

Crochet Clover Pots for St. Patrick's Day

Crochet Clover Pots: free crochet shamrock pattern for St. Patrick's Day | She's Got the Notion

One of the memories I have of elementary school is sitting on the grass at recess trying to find four-leaf clovers. The "grass" usually seemed to be only 50% lawn, and the rest was weeds and dry patches. One of these weeds was the clover. My friends and I spent seemingly hours trying to find that elusive four-leaf among vast amounts of three-leaf clovers. Guess what? It never happened.

We then turned to cheating, and would carefully pull a leaflet and part of the stem off of a clover, and then hold it place on a three-leaf clover. Instant four-leaf clover! While it was momentarily satisfying that we got to trick our classmates, it wasn't as satisfying as finding a genuine one would have been.

Luck really isn't on your side when trying to find that lucky four-leaf clover. According to this video from Scientific American, it only occurs in about 1 out of every 10,000 clovers! So this St. Patrick's Day, I decided to crochet some of my own luck.

10 for Tuesday: DIY St. Patrick's Day

We're talking about D.I.Y. St. Patrick's Day projects this week on She's Got the Notion. It's that time of year when everyone gets to be a little Irish and wear green, eat corned beef and cabbage, and drink a little Guinness (if you're old enough, of course!). I have some tutorials today that will get you wearing your green and make sure you don't get pinched. I've also got some DIY decor that's perfect for St. Patrick's Day parties or if you just want to decorate for the occasion. Enjoy!

Blog Goals for March

She's Got the Notion: sewing, crochet, and craft blog

February is so short of a month that I feel like March sneaks up on me. I love March, though, so it's a happy surprise. It's when spring begins and the flowers start blooming and the weather starts warming up. It becomes sundress season too, one of my favorites next to boot season.

In honor of spring and fresh beginnings, I decided to do something a little different this month on my blog. In order to have a more cohesive feel to my posts, I want to pick an overall theme for the month to work around. Since March 17 is St. Patrick's Day, I thought I'd make this months theme green. It will be about more than just the color, although I do have some St. Patrick's Day projects coming up!

What I will focus on this month:
  1. The color green. For St. Patrick's Day, of course.

  2. Not spending the green. I'm setting a goal to not buy any new craft supplies this month. Don't worry, it won't mean I will stop crafting! I have more than enough stash fabric and yarn to get me through the month. If anything, it will force me to get more creative. I'd love to get re-acquainted with what I have too. Sometimes I will be looking for a particular fabric and be surprised by something I forgot I had. This will also be a great month for me to actually work on projects that I have set aside and forgotten about.

  3. Reducing waste. I'm planning some projects to make things that are reusable and reduce the amount of garbage I create every month.

  4. Using (and repurposing) what I have. It's easy to think of a project and go out and buy the supplies needed. I want to try looking at what I have and finding ways to use them in a project. It's backwards to what I'm used too, but I'm hoping it'll will inspire me to try it out more in the future.
