Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday, May 10th. To celebrate moms everything, I've compiled a list of ideas and inspiration to make something for your own mother or for another special mother in your life. Mother's do so much for their children, so why not give back something unique and made with love?

Border Print Fabric Inspiration

Border Print Knit Fabric | She's Got the Notion

I had made it a goal for April to sew some clothing. Well in going through my stash I found one fabric in particular that I really want to use. It's a medium-weight border print knit that I purchased well over a year ago. I'd love to sew it into a casual dress for summer.

I purchased it with a specific pattern in mind, but I realized quickly after receiving it that it wasn't going to work out for that. The knit has a moderate amount of stretch, but it's going opposite of the border (selvage to selvage). That means I can't really incorporate stretch into my pattern that way I want the border to go. Plus, the border print really needs a simpler pattern to show off the print.

I think it's a bit of a blessing in disguise though, because that means this fabric would work better with simpler silhouettes (i.e. easier to sew garments!). So I searched the internet for some inspiration. I've found two options that look easy enough to replicate at home without a pattern.

10 for Tuesday: Throw Pillow Tutorials

DIY Pillow Tutorials: sewing and crochet | She's Got the Notion The pillows above are my own. You can read about the crochet one here.

An easy way to brighten up any room is with throw pillows. The cost can add up quickly, however, when purchasing them from a store. Why not DIY your own? My favorite throw pillows had removable covers so you can easily wash them and changed them out with the seasons or your mood. (Sew your own pillow form following my tutorial HERE!) So why not do a bit of springtime redecorating and make some of your own? These projects range all levels of sewing skills and crochet. Enjoy!

Blog Goals for April

Blogging Goals for April | She's Got the Notion

Last month I started posting my blogging goals for the month. I wanted to start having a theme for each month to make my blog feel more cohesive. I also had hoped it would make me more productive. Let's first revisit March and see how I did. The theme for March was "Green":
  1. The color green. (For St. Patrick's Day, of course). I did this with my Crochet Clover Pots and 'Green' Crochet & Sewing Projects post. I call this goal a success!

  2. Not spending the green. I set out to not spend any money of craft supplies this month. I succeeded! Now, I didn't get done as many projects as I wanted. Some things like not having a the correct size zipper prevented me from starting some projects. Hopefully I can continue the trend of not overspending on materials and just buying necessities in April.

  3. Reducing waste. The Reusable Cotton Pads & Face Scrubbies I crocheted met this goal. I wanted to make some reusable non-paper towels too, but lacked the supplies. (It may be a future project!)

  4. Using (and repurposing) what I have. Not spending money on supplies made me use what I already had. My Bunny Clutch and my Crochet Stash Basket made use of materials I already had. That being said, I didn't get to do any repurposing or refashioning in March. I'd love to make that my goal for April!

Overall, I'm most proud that I didn't give in and spend money on craft supplies in March. I hope that habit of using what I have sticks with me. What I was disappointed with was that overall I had less posts than in February (11 vs. 12), especially since February was a shorter month. Hopefully I can get a better pace going with my projects this month. March did, however, bring some popular posts, specifically the Crochet Clover Pots and the Crochet Stash Basket. I hope I can continue and get better writing crochet patterns because the response has been so positive!
