DIY Tiered Chain Necklace

DIY Tiered Chain Necklace

I was looking through my necklaces and realized I tend to pick a lot that that are colorful or gold in color. I didn't really have any long silver necklaces. Of course I took this as a challenge and a project I could easily make myself.

I just used what was in my stash for this necklace. Some of the chain was what was leftover after making my Chain Earrings and Chain Hand Bracelet. Obviously, I like using chain.

"Easy" Teal Top

Teal Top (McCall's 6519) | She's Got the Notion

I purchased this pattern (McCall's 6519, it's now out-of-print) a couple years ago. I think I thought it was such a great deal because it looked like a great wardrobe builder. I mean, you get a top, jacket, pants, skirt, and a dress for the price of one pattern. However, upon closer inspection I realized the every piece is pretty shapeless, with the exception of the wrap on the dress and skirt. What's the point in sewing your own clothes if they don't fit well? I'm sure these would be a great starting out patterns for someone who is good at altering and fitting their patterns, but not for the beginner.

I decided to give this pattern a go though for the top (View B). Loose fitting tops are popular right now and can still be flattering in a fabric that drapes well. I also like the gently curved hem on it. I used a fabric I snagged from my sister's stash, who had taken it from our mom's stash (don't you love a fabric with history?). It's a rayon challis, which was one of the recommended fabrics for this top.

Introducing the Reader Projects Pinterest Board

I love seeing projects that were made using tutorials from She's Got the Notion. I decided it would be fun to create a board on Pinterest showing off all the cool projects my readers have made. If you've made a project using one of my tutorials, send me an email with a link to the project or a picture so I can add it to my Pinterest board.

Happy D.I.Y.-ing!

Crochet Button Pillow: free crochet pattern

Crochet Button Pillow: free crochet pattern | She's Got the Notion

I have been working on this crochet project on and off for a couple months. I am excited to finally have it finished! The funny thing is this looks more like a fall-winter decoration and I finished it in the spring. I think playing around with the buttons and yarn color though could give it a lighter and more summery look. I really do like how it turned out. It looks like my pillow is wearing a cardigan sweater.

The pillow itself it a pretty basic pattern worked up in single crochet. It's the kind of pattern you don't have to think too much about and can do in front of the tv (my favorite kind of crochet pattern!). It is worked in three pieces, the back and two front panels, and then slip stitched together.

10 for Tuesday: Crochet Bags

10 free crochet bag patterns | She's Got the Notion

This weeks 10 for Tuesday is all about crochet. I know I've been focusing mainly on sewing lately and I wanted to show some crochet projects for my non-sewing readers. I love the look of crochet bags and I think they are perfect for toting around your essentials in the spring and summer. I use the majority of my crochet projects in the winter (shawls, hats, etc), so it'd be nice to have a project I could use year-round. Enjoy!

Red Polka Dot Toiletry Bag

Polka Dot Toiletry Bag: sewing tutorial using 2 fat quarters | She's Got the Notion

It's the one-year anniversary of my polka dot toiletry bag! Not that that is necessarily worth celebrating, but it is one of the cutest project (in my opinion) that I've ever sewn. It is hard to go wrong though with polka dots and a classic color scheme like navy, red, and white.

This also come just a couple days after a good friend of mine requested that I sew for her a toiletry bag for an upcoming trip. I couldn't resist more polka dots. It says a lot about my love of polka dots that this fabric was already in my stash.

Sneak Peeks + Fabric Haul

If you've been reading my blogging goals, you know that I went on a self-imposed fabric buying ban for 2 months. And you also know that on May 1st, I immediately bought fabric. Great self control, right? I'll probably need to start another ban next month.

I want to first update you and give you a sneak peek of the projects I have been working on since I've been doing some clothes sewing lately.

Sneak Peak | She's Got the Notion

As you can see, I've been very busy and have a backlog of things to share. I want to take some proper pictures of my new clothes first, however, before sharing more with you.

So to reward to myself for actually using my stash fabric, I bought more fabric. Does that logic work? I was so happy when the box came. It was like opening up a present to myself! I am hoping this lot won't sit in my fabric stash for over a year again. Let's take a look at what I bought...

1 Year Blogversary + Blog Goals for May

It's been officially one year since my first blog post went live! I have to shamefully admit that I forgot about it until after it passed. April went by so fast! I wanted to take the time to say thank you for reading my blog. I very much appreciate the support I've gotten for She's Got the Notion and it encourages me to keep writing. You can see my very modest first ever post here.
