The bride was doing a lot of the preparation for the wedding by herself and with the help of her family and friends. I know that can add a lot of extra pre-wedding stress, but the result was beautiful.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\nI was around helping to set things up that morning so I was able to take a lot of pictures. The bride's mother spent the better part of the past year growing succulents that were used for decor, favors, boutonnieres and the bouquets. She has quite the green thumb, right? I used the \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/dixiediy.bigcartel.com\/product\/bonnell-dress\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EBonnell Dress pattern from Dixie DIY\u003C\/a\u003E. I fell in love with the cute side cutouts and the V-shaped back neckline. It was my second time sewing the dress (the first one didn't turn out quite right fit-wise), so making minor pattern adjustments, cutting, and sewing the dress only took a day. I made it in a stretch cotton sateen fabric, which was perfect for the 100 degree weather that day. I wished I'd been able to take more pictures of me actually in the dress, but I felt like I was running around all day and I forgot to actually take any.\u003C\/P\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\n\nI did all the finishes by machine to save time. The bodice lining is attached by stitching in the ditch below the waistband. It's a bit noticeable in places, so if I had had the time I probably would have hand stitched it in place. I also managed to successfully use my new invisible zipper foot on the first go! I think I did a pretty good job matching the seams up along the zipper too. The hem was finished with a machine blind hem stitch because I didn't like the look of topstitching on the fabric. I also overcasted the edges of the seam allowance to prevent fraying.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\nTruth be told I had a terrible time fitting this pattern originally. The bodice itself was baggy on me even after doing a small bust adjustment. However, that's not unusual for me since I have a very petite upper body. This time sewing the dress, though, I think the fit turned out very well . It gets a bit colder there than it does here, so I used that as a perfect excuse to do some crocheting. I made a \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.shesgotthenotion.com\/2014\/10\/crochet-pattern-review-cloudburst-shawl.html\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003ECloudburst Shawl\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E for my friend and a \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.shesgotthenotion.com\/2015\/02\/chunky-stripe-hat-with-pom-pom.html\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003EChunky Stripe Hat with a pom pom\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E for her husband. For myself, I was trying to pack for a weekend in just a backpack so I wanted a warm accessory that could get with every outfit. My raincoat is red, so it was very obvious to me to crochet a blue cowl.\n\n\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E\nI had been eyeing the \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/triple-luxe-cowl\" target=\"_blank\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003ETriple Luxe Cowl\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E pattern for awhile. What had stopped me from making it sooner was that bulky yarn meant for a very warm cowl. I live in Northern California, and there would probably only a month or two in the winter when it'd be cold enough to wear it. So of course I jumped on an excuse to make it.\u003Ca name='more'\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\n\n\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E\nI used Lion's Pride Woolspun in Navy Heather to make the cowl. As you remember from my \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.shesgotthenotion.com\/2014\/11\/chunky-stripe-crochet-hat.html\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003EChunky Stripe Hat\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, I feel in love with this yarn. It has a nice softness and warmth and is easy to work. The cowl pattern was easy as well. It didn't take much concentration so I could crochet in front of the tv.\n\n\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E\nI love how this cowl drapes while wearing it. The stitch pattern makes it have a different look on the front and back sides, and I like them both. For my friend, I made a \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.shesgotthenotion.com\/2014\/10\/crochet-pattern-review-cloudburst-shawl.html\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003ECloudburst Shawl\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E because she had admired the one I made last fall. For her husband, I wanted to made a hat.\n\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E\nI decided to use my own pattern for the \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.shesgotthenotion.com\/2014\/11\/chunky-stripe-crochet-hat.html\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003EChunky Stripe Hat\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E because I have grown very fond of the Lion's Pride Woolspun yarn. I gathered all the scraps I had of it and started crocheting. It makes me a bit anxious to use scraps for a project because I don't know if it will be enough. Lo and behold, I ran out of yarn two rows short (one hdc row and the finishing slip stitch). I could have stopped right there, but I didn't want it to be too snug, especially since I had been itching to add a pom pom to something. I dug through my yarn stash and found some Vanna's Choice in Charcoal Grey. It was very similar to the dark gray of the Lion's Pride Woolspun, but it was a lighter weight. I decided to hold it double to finish the hat. I also ended up adding an extra row of hdc to create some slouchiness.\n\u003CBR\u003E\u003CBR\u003E\nI am a bit ashamed to say my yarn stash has grown embarrassingly (or enviously?) large. So I was able to find scraps of ivory, dark grey, and navy blue worsted weight yarn to use to make the pom pom. I made a 5\" pom pom using the cardboard circle technique explained \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=a03BTR3_3qg\" target=\"_blank\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/b\u003E. I usually just use my fingers to make pom poms, but I wanted this one to be oversized. I thought they looked best when attached next to each other in a row. I took a long piece of yarn and a yarn needle and attached two hearts together using a couple stitches, then carried the yarn piece through the back of each heart, catching a couple crochet stitches on the back side. It is a bit fussy, however, because it uses a magic ring. I got pretty good at these after while though and barely needed to refer to the pattern. The pattern calls for an 'E' hook so that the stitches are nice and tight. However, I did not have an 'E' hook. It was the second pattern I used in a week that called for an 'E' hook. For some reason I had a 'D' and an 'F', but not 'E'. Grr. Since the yarn I'm using is a bit lighter than worsted weight, however, the 'D' hook worked fine. I just had to be extra careful not to split the yarn while crocheting. I have the tiniest ledge so it's tricky to find things that will safely fit on it. I had recently finished a jar of homemade pomegranate jam my mom had made, which I'm sad about finishing, but on the upside I had a cute little jar to repurpose. I took out the metal lid, but kept the metal ring on. Then I popped in a little tealight candle. To finish it off, I crocheted the small version of the crochet heart. Then I tied it around the jar. Simple, but I think it's cute.\n\n\n\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E\n\nWell, that's it. My very modest Valentine's decorating. For now anyway, I have more projects in mind!
