Crochet Pumpkins

Crochet pumpkins & fall tablescape | She's Got the Notion

I love fall. I love how the leaves change color. I love how cooler weather means wearing my favorite boots and handmade scarves and hats. I love all of the pumpkin flavored treats and spiced apples. I also love that it means my favorite holiday is just around the corner. Ok--Christmas is still over 2 months away so that one is a stretch.

Going back to fall, I wanted to get into the spirit by doing a little decorating. I found this pattern for Spice & Clove Knit and Crochet Pumpkins on Ravelry and thought they were adorable. So I whipped some up...and yes they are adorable! Probably one of the cutest things I've ever made that serves no purpose except to make me happy.

A little side note...while editing this photo I started thinking about how delicious those apples looked. Then I suddenly craved an apple. Like, really craved one. So I took a break and ate an apple. It was delicious. Maybe that's the secret to eating healthy? Just stare at pictures of delicious looking produce day!

For each crochet pumpkin I varied the amount of increases and deceases as well as the number of body rows to make different sizes. I used Red Heart Soft and an F hook for the orange pumpkin. The ivory pumpkin was made out of mystery acrylic yarn in my stash. The stems are a brown Vanna's Choice scrap. Now the yellow one is probably my least favorite. I used a cotton yarn, which is stiffer than acrylic. It means it puffs out less than the other two pumpkins and was harder to crochet (I ended up going up to a G hook). And...it looks like a bell pepper to me. I'm seriously considering ripping off the brown stem and changing it to yellow so it can be the bell pepper it obviously wants to be. Anyway, I highly recommend using acrylic yarn for this pattern. Unless you're looking to crochet some bell peppers.

Since I was feeling festive about the start of fall, I bought myself some pretty autumn-colored flowers at the store. I have never ever bought flowers for myself before, but I kind of liked it. Beats waiting for Valentine's Day or an anniversary, right? Then I went a little overboard and set out some apples, coffee beans and a tealight in a jar, and some almonds in a vase. Yeah, like I said, I went a little overboard. But I still like it. However, I use my table to do work on as well, so I already had to scale it down a bit. Also, do you recognize the table runner? It's the Reversible Scalloped Edge Table Runner I sewed up last year. I've definitely gotten a lot of mileage out of it already.
